Summer Games: Gymnastics Adventure Dora Giveaway

We are so excited! Tonight, the Summer Olympics officially begin with their Opening Ceremonies. Even though women's soccer has already started, tonight is the one moment that truly symbolizes the spirit of the Games because the citizens and athletes of all the countries will be gathered together in one place to celebrate this world event and to proudly represent their countries.

Our family will be gathered together watching and cheering. My kids have been preparing for the Summer Games for a few weeks now with the new Summer Games Unit by Multicultural Kid Blogs. I had the privilege of working on it and can honestly say it is one of the best downloads available for families and students is (in my opinion). It comes with 100+ pages of educational fun, such as...
  • a history of the Ancient and Modern Games
  • a brief description of all the sports played in the 2016 Summer Games
  • world mapping activity
  • an introduction to this year’s host city and country
  • introductions to the top ten nations with the most medals; includes country facts, geography, brief histories, landmarks, wildlife, music, famous people, trivia, a kid-friendly recipe, and recommended reading
  • reading passages about seven famous medaled athletes from around the world
  • additional worksheets that allow students to show what they’ve learned, such as flag matching, word search, matching, fill in the blank, multiple choice, and trivia.
  • answer keys
  • your own medal tracker!

If you're looking for other resources, don't forget that I have many posts here on MommyMaestra sharing resources for exploring Ancient Greece, how to learn the Greek alphabet, and much, much more. And you can also find loads of ideas on my Olympics Activities & Crafts board on Pinterest...

Anyway, as you know (if you follow MommyMaestra on Facebook) we are huge fans of gymnast Laurie Hernandez from New Jersey. Why? Because a) she's a Latina - Puerto Rican descent to be exact, b) she's homeschooled! and c) we love her charm, her cheerful attitude, and her creative spirit. Her first round of events will be this Sunday. We hope you'll watch with us and cheer on our American team.

So you can imagine my delight the other day when I was walking around Target with my kids and I spied this awesome Gymnastics Adventure Dora doll in the clearance rack. She was the only one, just begging me to take her home. I couldn't help but be reminded of Laurie and so I snatched her up! She's perfect. And look! She even says more than 30 phrases in English AND Spanish!

Since my daughter isn't too into dolls (unless they are the furry and feathery kind), I decided that this Dora/Laurie needs the love of a special girl.

SO! To celebrate the Summer Games and Laurie's success in making the Olympic team, I'm giving away this doll to one MommyMaestra reader!
